A Vague Announcement

It's been a great year for me, I've done a lot of traveling and touring and hard work, and a lot of not spending any time at home and not having any time to myself.  After being on the road for most of this year I had almost forgotten what normal life was like at home, but these last couple of months have been different and actually quite a bit of fresh air. The bulk of touring for me stopped almost 2 months ago and since then I've had time to myself. It's been great. I've spent time at home, been able to help out friends with their recordings, I've had a holiday in Samoa, planted my first seedlings for summer, been to Australia twice, returned from Australia to find my seedlings all dead … Read more →

Last Day

kangaroo.jpg

Today is the last day before we head off to Australia for a brief tour.   It's always chaotic on the last day before we leave. So many things to organise. One time we were going to Japan, and 20 minutes before we left we realised the flights had been booked for my wife with the last name Baxter, which is a fair assumption, but her passport still had her maiden name. What we needed to find was our marriage certificate… So we spent the next 20 … Read more →

God bless America, and other things

4th-expedition5

Today we're driving from New York City to Baltimore in Maryland. I pronounced it Mary-Land the other day. Which made everyone around me erupt with laughter. Apparently it's pronounced "Marilind". If people want things pronounced properly, they should spell them the way they sound.   We're playing at a radio station there called WWMX in their lunch room. There's been a lot of those on this trip. You could imagine … Read more →

Winery Tour Day One!!

IMG_1485

Yesterday was the first day of the Winery Tour!!     Here's a little video of some of the day.   We took off from Auckland at 1 and had a real short road trip up to Matakana. To get to Matakana you turn right at Warkworth, BUT, if you turn left instead you'd get to the great Kaurawhero Community Hall where I recorded the Avalanche album. It's nice to be back in the same area. We arrived and hung out in … Read more →

Jason Gunn

What a crazy weekend it was. I've been back in NZ for a week after touring Australia and I definitely hit the ground running. Rehearsals with the brass section and small ukulele orchestra for the Music Awards, rehearsals for the shows on Sunday and Monday just gone and organising everything for our American tour, which we leave for the day after the awards. The show on Sunday before the world cup game was great. Big crowd, 12,000 people, … Read more →

Konnichiwa

moat

Yesterday was an amazing trip to Kyoto. We figured out the subway system to get to the right station then hopped on a high speed intercity train. Between Osaka and Kyoto there is actually no country side, from what we saw anyway. All the houses and factories ran together and at one point there was just a little more space between them. Which was probably the country side. In Kyoto we saw a 16th century castle with a moat, we waded across a … Read more →

Brisbane!

Morning world! We left NZ for Australia on Thursday morning, up at 3:45am. Yep, we are living the dream. I had a mammoth day of press scheduled in Brisbane so to get there in time for it we were booked on the 6:40am flight to Brisbane. I still had some special little blue sleeping pills from America so as soon as we were in the air i took 2. I normally cannot sleep at all on planes so these little blue pills are a life saver. Even still, the … Read more →
